Civil engineer

A civil engineer is a professional who is attached with various engineering projects.  He has to work out the viability of any project as regard to its location, costing, profitability, market accessibility etc.  He can work in technical boards of companies also.  He can attend many workshops also.  He can be a Professor also if he is interested in imparting education.  A civil engineer who has a good technical education and experience along with efficiency is in great demand today.
In addition to performing his duties of ac engineer, he has to work with many other professionals to complete his project.  So they should be good all round with good communicative skills at the top.

ELIGIBILITY:

For a Civil Engineer, good academic knowledge is must.  He should be good in mathematics, chemistry, physics, english etc.  He should have a good knowledge of computers also.  After completing the high school, they should go to a reputed college to attain the degree in Civil Engineering.  He can take the degree from any institution but it should be accredited by ABET.  So before getting admission in any college, you must have the details of ABET and you must check the institution meets all those requirements where you are going for admission, therefore, you can ask for the admission brochure before taking admission.

There are certain institutions, which offer a four or five year program for civil engineering degree. A five year program will give you a master’s degree as well.  There are certain institutions, which offer cooperative study, which means working while going to school, so you can be self-dependent while studying and there is a little less burden on your parents.  A four year program includes one year in mathematics and basic science, the second year in engineering science and technology with analysis, the third year in engineering theory and design and the fourth year in general subjects like social science, humanities, communications etc.
Generally, there is first three years study, which provides you with a good science background, and you can now select your stream, your specialization.  Civil Engineer is a good choice.  It can be a great fun to be a Civil Engineer because you have to do designing, building, leadership, teaching etc.  You may also join some elite clubs you can also get involved in a bigger society and to widen your area.

Job Duties May Include:

Create very high quality construction documents
Create preliminary grading plans from site plan topographic survey, legal description, and occasionally to site visits.
 Coordinate with outside consultants including surveyors, soils engineers, public works departments, etc.
Help others to get the job done in timely manner.
Produce construction drawings in a timely manner, and in accordance with project schedules.
Visit the work sites regularly to get better design idea, communicate with engineers, to understand the work better.
